Finding Fall Aspen Colors in Colorado – A Trip to Kebler Pass

One of my all-time favorite places to visit in the fall months of September and early October is the area to the west of Crested Butte, namely Kebler Pass. The area immediately below Kebler Pass is blessed with a spectacularly dense aspen forest occasionally mixed with dark spruce stands that are especially common at the higher elevations.

James Peak Wilderness Area

I recently hiked into the James Peak wilderness area near Nederland, Colorado. This is a photograph from the James Lake trailhead and shows 13,294 ft. James Peak. Click on the photograph to enlarge. James Peak wilderness is located immediately south of but not contiguous with the Indian Peaks wilderness. It is a fairly new wilderness area being designated in August 2002, and is 14,000 acres in size. The wilderness contains several high altitude lakes and thirteen thousand foot James Peak.
